The Fukuyama Castle and it's stone wall,
locating just behind the Fukuyama Station are Widely known as the symbol
of the city of Fukuyama. It is indeed a surprise the train station locates
in enclosure of the castle. It is so to say the station and the castle
are Crossing point of the medieval and modern ages of Japan.
The Fukuyama Castle was burnt down by bombing just before the ending
of World War II in 1945. Then it was rebuilt in 1966 as the memorial
project of 50 years anniversary of Fukuyama City.
Today we have a cultural & historical zone with full of beautiful
green trees including castle park and other cultural facilities
around the castle.
The city has started the Fukuyama Station Front Redevelopment construction
work as the memorial project of 100 years anniversary of the city.
In this construction work the stone wall built 385 years by Katsunari
Mizuno was founded underground in a good condition and confirmed
historically worthy.
So we propose the plan of Fukuyama Water Front park there with
a most making use of atone wall founded. This Plan is to coexist
the redevelopment of the Station Front for traffic convenience
and preserve the atone wall.
We strongly hope he succession of Fukuyama Castle heritage to inspire
the next and future generation for the castle is the starting
point of the City. We start a signature-collecting campaign
of 100,000 citizens for we held a fief yielding of 100,000
Koku in Edo-Era when the castle was built.
